Sublime Reunites After Nearly 13 Years With New Singer

by Ryan Laster ~ March 4th, 2009

It’s been almost 13 years since singer/songwriter/guitarist Bradley Nowell, frontman of the band Sublime, died of a heroin overdose inside his hotel room. Since then, multiple albums have been released with previous recordings and new master tracks of previously-released content.

Well, on February 28th, Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson teamed up with Rome Ramirez, a 20-year-old from California to play a gig as Sublime. You can watch some footage of the show below.

Some fans are outraged by this reunion because they feel like Bradley has been replaced by Rome. Here is one person’s comment on ThePier.org Message Board

It’s not gonna stop me from loving the old stuff, but it cheapens the brand and embarrasses me as a fan.

I can’t proudly sport Sublime stickers on my car because I don’t want to associated with Rome, whatsoever.

How about all the people who have branded themselves with Sublime tats? What if Rome tarnishes the Sublime name? What then? All we have is the legacy that Brad left behind. No need for us to add a new chapter written and performed by a kid that none of us know. Hell, Brad never met Rome, what makes him the man to pick up where Brad left off? Why should we blindly support this kid as the frontman to our favorite band?

And another thing…

What the fuck entitles Rome to Bradley’s fortune? All the blood, sweat and tears that Brad spent on this band, and he never really got to see any fortune or fame from it, but this fuckin kid is gonna step in, and pick up where Brad left off, and make the millions that Brad earned. FUCK THAT

How can anyone think this is cool?

Imagine Rome singing Pool Shark… Oh yeah, I’m sure he can relate. Let’s make him a millionaire.

How do YOU feel about Sublime reuniting with this punk kid who has no right stepping into Brad’s shoes?

Sublime and Rock Band DLC

by Ryan Laster ~ February 9th, 2009

Ever since the first Guitar Hero game came out, I have wanted to be able to play Sublime. It seemed possible when Guitar Hero 2 was announced, but no Sublime. Then Guitar Hero 3 was announced, and still no Sublime. I gave up hope for a while…

Then Rock Band hit the scene and introduced downloadable content (DLC) as a major part of the game. Still, no Sublime. During the summer of 2008, rumors were flying left and right about what bands we would see in Rock Band 2, and Sublime was always on the top of everyone’s rumor track list. It seemed as though Rock Band fans everywhere would have the chance to see and play Sublime in Rock Band 2, but then the official track list was released by Harmonix and still there was no Sublime. While Rock Band 2 was in development, the guys over at Activision were busy making their version of a full-band game, Guitar Hero: World Tour. And wouldn’t you know, Sublime was finally brought to the homes of video-game fans everywhere with the song “Santeria.”

It’s been months since Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour were released into stores. There are hundreds of downloadable songs for Rock Band, but still no Sublime. What gives? Someone emailed Sublime’s management last year asking about their involvement in Rock Band, and got this message:

So I took it upon myself to send another email to the Sublime management, offering my concern about the lack of Sublime in Rock Band 2, months after the game was released and hundreds of songs have become available for download. This is the message I sent them:

Hey there, long time fan with a quick question.

Last year someone emailed you guys asking about Rock Band, which you guys said for us to wait and see what happens Fall of 2008. Well it’s now getting close to the Spring of 2009 and I am wondering what’s going on?

I know Santeria is in Guitar Hero World Tour, but I can tell you that 1000s of people would love to have Sublime in Rock Band 2. Just check out this thread on the Rock Band Forums.

I hope that one day we will see Sublime in Rock Band, so that way I don’t have to go out and buy crappy Guitar Hero just to get my fix.

Peace guys,

-Ryan Laster

And here is the message I got back, in image format so you know I am not bullshitting you.

Please Harmonix, get your act together. Get back in touch with the Sublime management, make this happen for us Rock Band fans. We want to play Sublime in your game, and we will gladly pay you lots of money to be able to do it. If the boys at Activision can get this done, I definitely know you guys can do it too, and do an even better job if I may say so myself.

Senate Approves Digital TV Conversion Delay

by Ryan Laster ~ January 26th, 2009

We’ve all been waiting a long time for this digital TV conversion to finally take place, and now we’re going to have to wait even longer. The Senate has just delayed the whole conversion another four months to help everyone waiting for their $40 coupons to buy their DTV converted boxes. This transition was supposed to take place February 17th, but now it will happen on June 12th.

All I have to say is Congress and everyone else involved needs to get their act together and get this transition underway. We have been seeing the commercials regarding this transition for months now and it seems like we should have had ample time to get this whole conversion thing over with.

President Obama’s Inauguration and Address

by Ryan Laster ~ January 20th, 2009

History was made today, as the United States swore in Barack Obama as the 44th President, and I feel like this should not be passed by. So below, for your viewing pleasure, is the 21 minutes of footage of President Obama.

Joaquin Phoenix — Great Actor, Horrible Rapper

by Ryan Laster ~ January 18th, 2009

It was only a few months ago when Joaquin Phoenix announced that he was going to retire from acting to pursue his musical career. Sure, he did a great job as Johnny Cash in “Walk The Line,” but just because he was good at singing country doesn’t mean he would be good at doing hip-hop.

Last night was the debut of Phoenix’s hip-hop career, and you can see how horribly he did by watching the first video below. The second video is of him trying to pump up the crowd and then exiting the stage, where the whole performance just falls on its face.

Oh Joaquin, how I miss you as an actor already…

Image Of Aaron Eckhart as Two-Face

by Ryan Laster ~ May 14th, 2008

Check it out people, the first image of Two-Face has hit the net! From what I have heard, this image has been going fast so check it out before it’s too late!

I really like what they have done with the prosthetics and effects on Eckhart’s face. If Christopher Nolan plays his cards right, I think Two-Face could be one of the most frightening Batman villains ever. Seriously, would you want to see that face staring at you all the time?

Second Incredible Hulk Trailer

by Ryan Laster ~ April 30th, 2008

Even though this week officially belongs to Iron Man, which hits theaters tomorrow, we have seen a lot more from The Dark Knight and now The Incredible Hulk. Below, we have the second trailer for Hulk that shows a lot more than in the previous trailer.

In this new trailer, there’s a lot more action, more Liv Tyler and more Tim Roth. Which, to me, is a good thing. The Incredible Hulk hits theaters on June 13th.

The Incredible Hulk stars Edward Norton, Liv Tyler and Tim Roth. You can see 14 new images if you head over to Film School Rejects.

What do you think about this new trailer? Much better than the first one, huh?

See the Sleestak From Land of the Lost Remake

by Ryan Laster ~ April 29th, 2008

Today we get to see the Sleestak from the remake of Land of the Lost which stars Will Ferrell. USAToday got the exclusive first look and posted this image online.

Now, some of you might be screaming “MAN IN SUIT! MAN IN SUIT!” which is correct. They are men in suits, but that’s the way it was intended. Since this film is going to be a comedy, the director thought this was the best choice instead of using CGI. So take a look at the ominous Sleestak below!

First Look: New Dark Knight Trailer

Trailer For It’s Alive Remake Now Online

by Ryan Laster ~ April 29th, 2008

I will put this as simply as possible. There are some movies that do not need to be remade. It’s Alive is one of those films. We have the trailer below, and I’m not sure whether or not to take it seriously. Parts of it make me laugh hysterically, while other parts just plain gross me out.

You can watch the trailer below, but be warned! The trailer is over three minutes long and just about gives away the whole movie. So if you aren’t into spoilers, I suggest staying awaying from this one. Oh, but if you want to see Bijou Phillips’ nipple, cut straight to 1:59 into the trailer.

What did you think about that trailer? Is this a comedy or a horror? Or maybe it’s a bit of both? Discuss below!

New Iron Man Clip: Flight Stabilizer

by Ryan Laster ~ April 29th, 2008

Iron Man hits theaters May 1st at 8 P.M.

No New Dark Knight Trailer Tonight

by Ryan Laster ~ April 28th, 2008

The viral marketing campaign for The Dark Knight was in full swing today with tons of people taking part in a huge scavenger hunt…which led us nowhere.

After all was said and done, we found ourselves directed to this website with this image on there.

I feel cheated. I don’t know about the rest of you, but after all of this went down today I was really expecting to see a trailer tonight. Now it looks like we are going to have to wait until Sunday…or until someone that was lucky enough to get their hands on it and leaks it.

Resurrection Coming From Universal

by Ryan Laster ~ April 28th, 2008

Universal has bought the rights for the comic book series Resurrection, written by Marc Guggenheim. The comic book series fairly new, the first publication was back in October and now the third issue recently released.

Resurrection takes an old story-line, but brings it to us from a different viewpoint. The series follows a group of survivors trying to take back control of the planet after an apocalyptic alien invasion.

No word on who will direct or star in the adaptation. But one thing is for sure, we will be seeing a lot of comic book movies in the next few years from comics not widely known. Oni Press is the compnay that publishes Resurrection as well as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World which was also just picked up for an adaptation coming from Edgar Wright and Michael Cera.

Guillermo Del Toro Talks The Hobbit Plus Its Sequel

by Ryan Laster ~ April 28th, 2008

After the official announcement on Thursday that Guillermo Del Toro would be directing The Hobbit and its sequel, there are a lot of questions to be answered. TheOneRing.net talked to del Toro about his take on his new adventure and what, and who, should we expect to see.

Regarding the cast and who has given interest in returning, del Toro had this to say.

“I had the most charming meeting with Sir Ian, and all bureaucracy pending, he’s on board, as is Andy Serkis,” he said. “We will continue giving you progress reports as the occur. It is our intention that we will not lose any of the key elements.”

We have also been told that del Toro is going to move to New Zealand for four years with Peter Jackson to film. Del Toro’s film Pan’s Labyrinth used some studio sets to simulate the outdoors, and TheOneRing.net asked if he planned on doing the same for The Hobbit.

“I think green screen photography is exactly like CGI, it is a tool, I don’t think it should be overused. Things like ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ and ‘The Devil’s Backbone’ are incredibly dependent on location, we shot on location for more than half the time. Those locations can be enhanced by technology however, both digital and physical. What I would like to avoid is the recreation of the natural environments in CG, I don’t like doing that. The movie is essentially a journey movie, I think you need to use locations as much as possible.”

Del Toro pointed out that he plans on using less CGI than seen in Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films, and use more animatronics. They basically want to take a leap 10 years into the future with the state-of-the-art animatronics they plan on using.

You can read the full interview over at TheOneRing.net.
