Butler Plays Young Connery In UNTOUCHABLES Prequel
by Ryan Laster ~ May 22nd, 2007. Filed under: Uncategorized.Hey folks, Ryan here…
Gerard Butler has been cast as the role of Jim Malone, a Chicago police officer made famous by Sean Connery in THE UNTOUCHABLES. Butler will be playing the young Connery, back when the character was still a detective, in CAPONE’S RISING.
Butler will do his best to stay true to the character, but he says don’t expect to see an exact imitation of Connery:
“Being Scottish and being tall, I’m gonna come across a little bit like Sean Connery…and people will make those comparisons, but I’m going to do my own thing.”
“You know what? I think this character [has even] more [great lines] in him [than before], because this was a point where he was more a wheeler and dealer,†Butler exclaimed. “He has to deal with things coming for him, he has to deal with his own morality. In this story there’s so much going on with this guy that you really see a lot of different sides to his character.â€
So far we have Brian De Palma back in the director’s chair, Brian Koppelman and David Levien writing, Nicolas Cage as a young Al Capone and now Gerard Butler as a young Sean Connery. If you ask me, this movie will be sporting all kinds of badassery from every direction. This is one sequel, well, prequel really…that I am looking forward to.
