Robert Rodriguez To Direct BARBARELLA Remake

Variety.com reports that Robert Rodriguez, the guy behind films like SIN CITY and DESPERADO, has taken the role of director on the upcoming remake of the 1968 BARBARELLA.
Rodriguez will team up alongside Neal Purvis and Robert Wade who were the two guys that wrote CASINO ROYALE. Rodriguez had some words to say regarding the film:
“I love this iconic character and all that she represents, and I’m truly excited by the challenge of inviting a new audience into her universe.”
Rodriguez has a lot of films on his to-do list right now, so I can’t say when we should expect to see this hit theaters since he is working on SIN CITY 2, SIN CITY 3 and a straight-to-video MACHETE. Rodriguez has always been a pretty fast worker and is able to complete his projects in a short amount of time, so hopefully BARBARELLA will grace our eyes by 2009.
