Regal Theaters Bring Back Red Band Trailers

Over the weekend, Regal Entertainment Group announced that they would permit red band trailers to show in its theaters. These trailers will help promote more adult-oriented films since they are uncensored and usual feature coarse language and crude jokes.

These trailers will only appear in front of R-rated, NC-17 rated, and unrated films with a warning reading “the following preview has been approved for restricted audiences only.” Red band trailers were taken out of theaters in 2000 by the FTC and have only been available for viewing on the internet. But thanks to digital film taking over the movie industry, theaters will be able to make sure these restricted trailers only play in front of adult-oriented films.

Regal Theaters are all over the country in 39 states with 6,388 screens represented. This major change in policy is likely to affect other movie theater chains over the country and I would expect to see more red band trailers as time goes on.
