Sublime Reunites After Nearly 13 Years With New Singer
by Ryan Laster ~ March 4th, 2009. Filed under: Bradley Nowell, Bud, Eric, Reunite, Rome, Sublime, Sublime w/Rome, reunion. It’s been almost 13 years since singer/songwriter/guitarist Bradley Nowell, frontman of the band Sublime, died of a heroin overdose inside his hotel room. Since then, multiple albums have been released with previous recordings and new master tracks of previously-released content.
Well, on February 28th, Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson teamed up with Rome Ramirez, a 20-year-old from California to play a gig as Sublime. You can watch some footage of the show below.
Some fans are outraged by this reunion because they feel like Bradley has been replaced by Rome. Here is one person’s comment on ThePier.org Message Board
It’s not gonna stop me from loving the old stuff, but it cheapens the brand and embarrasses me as a fan.
I can’t proudly sport Sublime stickers on my car because I don’t want to associated with Rome, whatsoever.
How about all the people who have branded themselves with Sublime tats? What if Rome tarnishes the Sublime name? What then? All we have is the legacy that Brad left behind. No need for us to add a new chapter written and performed by a kid that none of us know. Hell, Brad never met Rome, what makes him the man to pick up where Brad left off? Why should we blindly support this kid as the frontman to our favorite band?
And another thing…
What the fuck entitles Rome to Bradley’s fortune? All the blood, sweat and tears that Brad spent on this band, and he never really got to see any fortune or fame from it, but this fuckin kid is gonna step in, and pick up where Brad left off, and make the millions that Brad earned. FUCK THAT
How can anyone think this is cool?
Imagine Rome singing Pool Shark… Oh yeah, I’m sure he can relate. Let’s make him a millionaire.
How do YOU feel about Sublime reuniting with this punk kid who has no right stepping into Brad’s shoes?

I really think that Rome has every right as do the remaining Sublime members, to continue with the music they wanted to create, its not their fault that Bradley overdosed on heroine, end of story, yeah he is dead, well I pretty much think that he would want the music to live on, and it isnt Bradleys fortune that Rome will be getting, it will be his own, Brad missed out by dying!

Also, if you didnt know…. Gaugh and Wilson formed the band to begin with!

wasn’t this a one time gig, and isn’t this also something great for peope who never had the chance to see sublime or never even knew of sublime before brad died.
and how is this difrent from any of the cover bands out there, just because it has some of the original members in it.

Sublime was more than just brad, bud and eric are just as important and if they want to see their music be preserved and if they are cool with rome, that should be good enough. No one is trying to wipe everyones memory of brad they just want to keep his legacy going. This isnt about making millions its about the music

It just sucks that new music isnt cool anymore. Everyone just wants to make an old band cool again, and by using some little kid who has never touched a drug put his heart and soul into lyrics that speak of such???
This sucks, for the name, for the city, for it all, especially the music.
There is a horrible trend going around right now of making old bands with dead lead singers new again for the all the “new” kids, whos next nirvana? I cant wait to see the message board on that one.
speaking of nirvana… didnt that guy dave grohl go on and get super famous with his own band?
Why dont the remaining guys do the same, start a new band with rome as the lead singer, word will spread fast enough…. but no, money steps in again and spoils the world.
Rome does not belong, sure the kid can sing, but he puts effort into someone elses soul.

Something doesn’t feel right about it. I’ve been a huge sublime fan for years and would give almost anything to see Brad play with Sublime again, unfortunately that will never happen. Imagine this, the doors come back without Jim, Nirvana with a 20 year old kid that sounds like Kurt, the experience without Jimi. I still laugh at “Lynrd Skynrd”, I mean come on people, it’s just wrong. I’d love to see Bud & Eric perform with a new lead singer, but in a band not called Sublime. LBD allstars were kind of lame, let’s face it, this really isn’t that way to honor the Sublime name either. The only band that EVER successfully pulled off such a move was ACDC, at least to my knowledge. Bon Scott was great and there are hardcore fans that didn’t ever accept the change, but come on this isn’t Brian Johnson. This makes me sick as a true fan of Sublime.

Fuck Rome Ramirez. He sucks, he has nowhere near the vocal range, guitar chops, songwriting ability, stage presence or general creativity that Bradley had. I love Bud and Eric but they need to move on. LBDAS was cool, they were being creative and forward thinking- this is exactly the opposite. If you want to form a new band go right ahead but don’t involve the name Sublime. Sorry bros but Sublime died with Bradley, don’t tarnish his legacy, or yours, with this silly shit. Becoming your own cover band is just poor form.
