Quick updates: Gerard Butler joins another rom-com, THE BODYGUARD is getting a remake, David O. Russell tackles COCAINE COWBOYS

We’ve been running behind on stories today, so here is a quick update on a couple of things we missed from earlier today.

Gerard Butler joins another rom-com

Gerard Butler has another romantic comedy in his list of upcoming films. Butler has signed on to star in Playing the Field, where he joins Jessica Biel and Uma Thurman in the Gabriele Muccino directed film. The film follows a former soccer pro (Butler) who has to dodge the advances from beautiful soccer moms after he agreed to coach his son’s youth soccer team. Thurman will play one of the moms who makes passes towards Butler, and Biel will be portraying his ex-wife. [Variety]

THE BODYGUARD is getting a remake

Jeremiah Firedman and Nick Palmer will write the screenplay for a remake of The Bodyguard. The original starred Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston where Costner was Houston’s bodyguard. This new version will give the story an updated take, implementing social networking to show how “the world of Twitter, Google Maps and TMZ has made access to celebrities easier than ever.” Another change will be that the bodyguard will be an Iraqi war veteran who’s first job after returning to the states is to protect a famous celebrity. David O. Russell tackles COCAINE COWBOYS

David O. Russell, the director of The Fighter, is looking at many different projects to tackle after he completes his adaptation of Uncharted, based on the popular video game. Mark Wahlberg has been attached to star in the film for a while now, and follows the story of drug dealer Jon Roberts, who rose to power and a life of crime in Miami during the 70s and 80s. Leonardo DiCaprio and Peter Berg were once attached to this project, but now it seems that Wahlberg is the only person left on the project. [The Playlist]
