Drew Pearce signs on as IRON MAN 3 writer

This may come as surprising, or even bad, news to some of us. I’m quite surprised myself, but still very hopeful for Iron Man 3. We originally heard Shane Black would be directing and writing the script for the film, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Marvel has just hired Drew Pearce to write the script for the film, which will see Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man.

Deadline is saying Pearce will start the script from scratch and work very closely with Black on the project. As long as Black has some say as to what goes in the script, I will stay very positive about this project. As you may know, Black has worked on some of the biggest action flicks from the late 80s and early 90s. He brought us the Lethal Weapon franchise as well as the films The Last Boyscout and The Long Kiss Goodnight. His most recent film, which received rave reviews, was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which also starred Downey Jr. Hit the jump to hear a bit more on Pearce. Continue reading

Dan Scanlon to direct MONSTERS UNIVERSITY

We just found out a few days ago that the official title to the sequel of Monsters Inc. would be Monsters University. Also, I suppose we need to stop calling the film a sequel since Monsters University will take us back in time and see how Mike and Sulley became friends during their college years.

Now, through Comingsoon, we know who will be directing the prequel. Dan Scanlon has been hired by Disney/Pixar to helm the film with Kori Rae acting as a producer. Scanlon has done work with Disney and Pixar before, acting as a story artist on both Toy Story 3 and Cars and he also directed the short Mater and the Ghostlight. Continue reading

Watch a new one-minute clip from THOR

Here is a brand new clip coming from Thor which will hit theaters in a little over a month from today. The clip is roughly a minute long and finds Chris Hemsworth (Thor) as he has just landed on Earth after being banished from Asgard by his father. He is discovered by Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgård and Kat Dennings who try to talk to him without causing a scene. Well that doesn’t work so well considering Hemsworth ends up getting tazed at the end. Oh Ms. Dennings, when will you learn to control your trigger-happy finger?

We’ve seen some of this footage before in the trailer, but now we get to see how the whole scene plays out. You can watch the whole clip after the jump. Continue reading

Is this our first look at Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins in THE HOBBIT: PART 1?

Could this possibly be our first look at Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit: Part 1? A spy on the set of the new film down in New Zealand managed to capture some images of someone decked out in full Hobbit attire, and judging by the face we can just barely see, I’d say that’s Freeman as Baggins. These photos come from TheOneRing, who always have some great stuff over on their site.

Peter Jackson returns to the world of Middle Earth for the fourth and fifth time, directing The Hobbit: Part 1 and The Hobbit: Part 2, which are filming simultaneously in New Zealand as we speak. You can see these set photos after the jump. Continue reading

First set photos from ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER show up online

A couple of new photos from the set of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter have made their way online courtesy of On Location Vacations. This marks our first look at Dominic Cooper as Henry Sturgess, and what might be our first look at Benjamin Walker as Abraham Lincoln. Unfortunately we don’t have any vampires in these shots, but hopefully we’ll be seeing them shortly.

The cast has Benjamin Walker as Abraham Lincoln, Dominic Cooper as the role of Sturgess the mentor and Anthony Mackie (THE HURT LOCKER) for the role of Will, Lincoln’s best friend who occasionally assists with the vampire hunting. Timur Bekmambetov will direct the adaptation of the Seth Graham-Smith novel of the same name ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER. Check out the new images after the jump. Continue reading

Two new images released for TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON

Two new images have been released for the upcoming Michael Bay film, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. This is the third film coming from Bay, and should round-out his trilogy he started back in 2007. The new images we have feature Shia LaBeouf, Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel and some supporting cast members as U.S. soldiers. One of the pics shows LaBeouf running through what looks to be an office building while things are going a bit crazy behind him. The other image shows Gibson, Duhamel and others running away from some kind of crazy explosion.

This third and final Transformers film should be huge. Even Bay admitted Transformers 2 had some major problems and promises to do better this time around. You can see the new pics after the jump. Continue reading

Bryan Cranston might play villain in TOTAL RECALL remake

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston is in negotiations to play the lead villain in the Total Recall remake coming from Universal. The original film from 1990 was based on the Phillip K. Dick short story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale which followed the story of Douglas Quaid, a man who is constantly haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars where he buys a literal “dream vacation” from a company called Rekall Inc. Quaid starts to believe he is a secret agent fighting against the evil Mars administrator Cohaagen.

In this remake from director Len Wiseman, the story is essentially the same, but revolves around two nations, Euromerica and New Shanghai, as they are about to enter into a war together. The Hollywood Reporter says Cranston would play Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of Euromerica, who is planning on invading New Shanghai while pretending to be protecting his people of Euromerica. Casting updates and more for GREEN LANTERN

All has been quiet on the Green Lantern front ever since that first trailer was released months ago. Since the release, we’ve seen huge amounts of promotional material for the other superhero movies coming out this summer, such as Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and X-Men: First Class. Seeing as Green Lantern will be released right in the middle of those films (June 17), one would think we’d be seeing a lot more from that film. Well Warner Bros. president Jeff Robinov has come out and said the reason we haven’t seen new promotion items for the film is because the special effects scenes are taking longer to complete than originally imagined.

While speaking with The LA Times, Robinov had this to say regarding the marketing for Green Lantern:

We are on a learning curve in getting 3-D materials and marketing materials on the same schedule. [The advertising campaign] has been delayed strictly from production….We won’t be in this position again.

I can’t say I disliked the first trailer for Green Lantern, but it definitely wasn’t the best material we’ve seen from the other big superhero flicks coming out this summer. But poor marketing skills aren’t the only thing we have to say about Green Lantern, we also have an update on some casting news regarding the film. Check that out after the jump. Continue reading
