CUBE might be getting another sequel or a reboot/remake

It’s been 14 years since the original Cube, from director Vincenzo Natali, graced us with its originality and great scares. According to Shock Til You Drop, there are reports that Lionsgate wants to return to the mysterious cube with either a direct sequel, a reboot or a remake of the original film. We’re not sure what the direction of this film will be going, but we do know the studio has it tentatively titled at Cube 3D.

The original Cube came out in 1997 and spawned one sequel, Cube 2: Hypercube, and one prequel Cube: Zero. Both of those films fell way short of the original and lacked much of what we held so close to our hearts from the first film.

I actually wrote about Cube a few weeks ago, praising the film for being so original. It’s an interesting idea and could have spawned so many great sequels, but some how that just didn’t happen. Most people compare this film to the Saw series as they both feature a group of people trapped between life or death and must find a way to escape, or face the horrors of a gruesome death.

I’d like to see director Natali return to the franchise, seeing as it’s what put him on the map. I just hope Lionsgate keeps the Saw team far away from this project, as they have used up their welcome in the horror genre if you ask me.
