Watch the abandoned trailer for MONSTERS, INC 2: LOST IN SCARADISE that we’ll never see reach the big screen

While a sequel for the original Monster’s Inc. is scheduled for November of 2012 (11 years after the original, seriously?), we know we won’t be seeing anything from this video make it into that final film. After the first film was released and grossed over $500 million, Disney’s sister studio, Circle 7, hired screenwriters Bob Hilgenberg and Rob Muir to write the script for the sequel. So they wrote and worked up until Circle 7 faded away and the two guys and their team left to go work on Toy Story 3.

This is from the writers of the sequel, as posted on their YouTube page.

We just came across some of the artwork that was put together based on our Monsters Inc. 2 script. This was back at Circle 7 Studios and was the original project we worked on until we started on Toy Story 3. We have absolutely no idea what Pixar is doing with their version of MI2 (due out in 2012), but we thought it might be cool to show a little of what we were doing back then. The MI2 characters were really a lot of fun to work with…a writers dream, frankly. Keep in mind our story was taking place years after the original and we aged Boo up accordingly. Enjoy!

Check out the abandoned trailer after the jump.

Fun stuff, huh? It would have been nice to see more of this storyline, as I think it would make a great sequel. Maybe Disney plans on using plot ideas from this old script in their new sequel? I heard a rumor that the sequel won’t be a sequel at all, but rather a prequel that will explore how Sully and Mike became friends. I guess we’ll find out sometime down the line.
