Top 8 actors that were huge in the 90s and what movie killed their career

Our favorite actors come and go as newer and younger stars replace them. This process happens every 10 to 20 years, while some actors continue to hold on strong well into their death. What we’ve got for you is a list of actors and actresses that were huge in the 1990s, but that are now ever hardly seen, and what movie killed their career. The list of actors and actresses we have for you below appear in random order, as the amount of “FAIL” in each one of them is too great to rank.

Tom Sizemore

This guy was huge in the 1990s, no doubt. If you can think of a big movie from the 90′s, Tom Sizemore was probably in it. Just check out his list of films from that decade: Passenger 57 (1992), True Romance (1993), Wyatt Earp (1994), Natural Born Killers (1994), Strange Days (1995), Heat (1995), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Enemy of the State (1998) and Bringing Out the Dead (1999).

With a track record like that, how could he disappear so quickly? He should have been destined for greatness for many years to come.

The film that destroyed his career: Pearl Harbor (2001)

Anyone who made it out alive after Pearl Harbor was lucky, both in real life and the movie.

Bridget Fonda

Bridget Fonda acted in over 25 films in the 1990s. Some of her most notable roles were in The Godfather: Part III (1990), Doc Hollywood (1991), Army of Darkness (1992), Point of No Return (1993), City Hall (1996), Mr. Jealousy (1997), Jackie Brown (1997) and Lake Placid (1999), just to name a few.

The film that destroyed her career: Monkeybone (2001)

I wanted to say Lake Placid destroyed her career, but that movie was at least somewhat enjoyable. But Monkeybone was the final nail in the coffin for the beautiful actress. She tried to redeem herself in Kiss of the Dragon, but the damage was already done.

Wesley Snipes

Wesley Snipes…everyone’s favorite tax-evading actor of the last 15 years. He was one of the go-to guys in the 90′s for action movies. He also played a pretty good black guy a few times here and there. Here are some of his most notable films: New Jack City (1991), Jungle Fever (1991), White Men Can’t Jump (1992), Passenger 57 (1992), Demolition Man (1993), Murder at 1600 (1997), U.S. Marshalls (1998) and Blade (1998).

The movie that destroyed his career: Blade: Trinity (2004)

What, a movie in 2004 destroyed his career? Yes. That’s what I said. Snipes kept going fairly strong in the early 2000s, mainly with Blade II. But it was the third film in the series that put the final nail in the coffin for his career. That, and his problems with the law.

Winona Ryder

Winona Ryder was pretty big in the 90′s and starred in a number of good films. Just look at what she appeared in: Hit of the 1990s: Edward Scissorhands (1990), Dracula (1992), Reality Bites (1994), Little Women (1994), Alien: Resurrection (1997) and Girl, Interrupted (1999). She was great in Edward Scissor Hands, Reality Bites and Girl, Interrupted. What went wrong? Well, shoplifting never helps, but starring in a bad film is never a wise career decision.

The movie that destroyed her career: Toss up between S1m0ne (2002) and Mr. Deeds (2002)

Actors and actresses are allowed some poor choices here and there, but two in a row? In the same year? Not a good idea. I know you can’t tell when a movie is going to be critically acclaimed, if you did, most films wouldn’t be made. But Winona is making somewhat of a comeback in recent years, after appearing in Star Trek and Black Swan, she has a chance at redeeming herself.

Joe Pesci

Talk about a short guy with an attitude. Joe Pesci was someone you didn’t want to piss off in the 1990s. If he were in a good mood, he’d take you out back and beat the crap out of you so no one else saw it. If he were in a bad mood? He’d beat you to death with a baseball bat in the middle of a crowded room. Here are just a few of his best films from the 90′s: Hit of the 1990s: Goodfellas (1990), Home Alone (1990), JFK (1991), My Cousin Vinny (1992), Lethal Weapon 3 (1992), Casino (1995), and Lethal Weapon 4 (1998)

The movie that destroyed his career: Gone Fishin’ (1997)

Pesci was almost another double tapper with that horrible crime/comedy 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag, aside from the one redeeming scene where he threw the grandma out of the car over a cliff. Nice.

Geena Davis

Ah Geena Davis. What happened to you? We loved you in Beetleguice and A League of Their Own. Why did you have to start to suck? Here are some of her biggest roles from the 90′s: Quick Change (1990), Thelma & Louise (1991), A League of Their Own (1992), The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996), and Stuart Little (1999)

The movie that destroyed her career: The Geena Davis Show (2000)

Hah! Tricked you! It wasn’t a movie that ruined her career, but rather her own television show. When will actors know you shouldn’t try to start a show with their own name as the title, unless of course you’re Jerry Seinfeld.

Val Kilmer

If there was ever a talented actor that completely blew it after his stint in the 90′s, it has to be Val Kilmer. He gave some unforgettable performances in some of the best films from the 90′s. Here are just a few of those flicks: The Doors (1991), True Romance (1993), Tombstone (1993), Heat (1995), and The Saint (1997)

The movie that destroyed his career: Red Planet (2000)

Kilmer started making bad decisions towards the end of that fateful decade, but Red Planet was the last straw the broke the camel’s back. What should have been an awesome science-fiction flick about man’s first trip to Mars ended in a movie with the stars dealing more with emotion rather than the elements of the Red Planet.

Cuba Gooding Jr.

I’m sure this was one of the first names that popped in your head when you read the title of this post. That’s why he made it in our #1 spot in a list that isn’t even numbered. Cuba Gooding Jr. made jaws drop with his performance in Jerry Maguire. Here are some of his best performances from the 90′s: Boyz n the Hood (1991), A Few Good Men (1992), Outbreak (1995), Jerry Maguire (1996), As Good as It Gets (1997) and What Dreams May Come (1998)

The movie the destroyed his career: Snow Dogs (2002), Boat Trip (2002), The Fighting Temptations (2003)

Try as hard as he might, Gooding Jr. has not been able to salvage his career in the last 10 years. He’s a busy actor, but nowadays he is working on much smaller films that just don’t have the production value of the ones he used to work on. Our Oscar winner may make a return as one of the biggest actors in Hollywood, but he must make wiser decisions. I propose he keeps on reminding his agent and film studios that he won that Oscar and can do it again. Come one! Give this man a decent role!
