Two in Review: SCREAM 4 and HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 1

Hey there, folks! Welcome to my new weekly (I hope!) column here at If It’s Movies, where I give you the low-down on a current theater release as well as a film new to DVD, and without any spoilers. It’s called Two in Review, and I’m allowing you, our faithful readers, the chance to sound off on what movies you want reviewed!

That’s right! If you want to see something reviewed post it in the Comments section after you finish reading. Since I can’t review all of your suggestions, I will randomly select one of the theater films and one of the DVD releases using the most advanced technology available, which will probably be a piece of paper in a hat. So drop me some movies! I can’t wait to hear from you!

As I said, since this week is the first, I’m going ahead and reviewing Scream 4 as the theater release, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 as the DVD one. So, sit back, relax, and check out what I have to say about these two films! Continue reading

2011 Summer Movie Preview, Part Three

Check out Part 1 and Part 2 of the Summer Movie Preview.

Welcome back, movie-goers! After an unexpected week off I’ve returned to deliver the third and final installment of my 2011 Summer Movie Preview. This week I’ll be taking a look at July’s slate of movies, where we’ll see a long-running franchise finally come to a close, some robots doing robot stuff, the birth of an iconic superhero, and cowboys playing with aliens. It’s been a hot summer so far, but can July keep the fire burning? Let’s find out, shall we?

July 1 – Transformers: Dark of the Moon

So here we are at the third installment of the Transformers franchise. Dark of the Moon focuses on the discovery of a Cybertronian ship on the, you guessed it, dark side of the moon. Apparently, as seen in the teaser trailer, it was discovered by the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969 and became top-secret government knowledge. Again, the original cast reprises their roles, with the one tiny exception of Megan Fox. Yep, all that awkward romance between Sam and Mikaela from the first two films is history, with a new love interest portrayed by English model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. There’s really not much else to discuss about this film, other than that it has the potential to disappoint fans, but how is that any different than the first two? You can view the newest trailer below…

Movie review: TANGLED

Every so often an animated feature comes along that redefines the genre. The Lion King took storytelling in animation to a whole new level, Toy Story showed us just what a computer could do for the genre, and Shrek proved that, with the right selection of music, an animated film could stir the emotions of any hardened cynic. With Tangled, Disney uses all three of these tools and the result is nothing short of brilliant.

Most everyone is familiar with the fairy tale Rapunzel as collected and presented by The Brothers Grimm. The story of a young girl with insanely long, flowing hair, the tale has roots that date as far back as the mid 1600’s with many different variations in its details. In Tangled, many of these differences were combined making it an already unique version in and of itself. Continue reading
