Office Space and Idiocracy writer/director Mike Judge is bringing us a new comedy staring Jason Bateman titled Extract. The film will be produced under Judge’s new company, Ternion Productions.

Extract was written by Judge and will explore what it’s like to be the boss when everything seems to be shifting around you.

Judge is currently working on The Good Family, a television series which is being produced under Ternion Prod. Filming of the first 13 episodes is still underway, and the series should debut in the first quarter of 2009.

As I mentioned earlier, Judge is the creator of Office Space and Idiocracy. To me, Office Space is pure gold. I love that movie to death. Then there’s Idiocracy, which I didn’t think held up to Judge’s previous works. Sure, the premise was great but I don’t think it was executed as well as it could have been. That film didn’t receive much recognition until after it was released on DVD and people realized who Judge was.

My guess is Extract will be along the lines of Office Space. I think a film that focused on Bill Lumbergh’s (the boss from Office Space) point of view as the boss of Initech would be amazing. Hopefully Judge had something like this in mind when he wrote Extract

After hearing about a remake of The Incredible Shrinking Man, I took it upon myself to do some research and see what other classics were to be remade in the next few years. I was surprised about a few (Logan’s Run, Dirty Dozen) and then there were some I wasn’t so surprised about.

Well, I Dream of Jeannie is one of the remakes I wasn’t surprised to see. Since Bewitched was remade a few years ago, I guess it was only a short time before Jeannie was remade. If you think I am making all of this up, check out the IMDB.com page yourself! Right now, there is no director set but Cormac Wibberley is writing the screenplay. He’s written things such as The Shaggy Dog and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. Going by that awesome resume, this should be one helluva movie!

Dreamworks pictures has acquired the rights to the popular Japanese manga series ‘Ghost in the Shell.’ Their plans are to adapt the series into a live-action 3-D movie.

‘Ghost in the Shell’ is a futuristic police thriller dealing with the exploits of Motoko Kusanagi, a member of the covert operations section of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission, Section 9, which specializes in fighting technology-related crime.

The original ‘Ghost in the Shell’ was first published in 1989, and it went on to generate two additional manga editions, three anime film adaptations, an anime TV series and three videogames.

Steven Spielberg helped get this film rolling and we will see Avi Arad, Ari Ara and Steven Paul produce. Jamie Moss has signed on to write the adaptation of the manga to the big screen.

After reading that headline, I am sure most of you are thinking: “OH GREAT! Another ‘Rush Hour’ movie. Just what we need…” All I have to say is, not so fast there, you ‘Rush Hour’ haters.

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker have recently shaken hands on the decision to do a new movie together that will not be another sequel to their nearly $1 billion franchise. All those two need now is someone to write their new film idea, which is untitled according to Chan. I guess they also need a director, but Chan didn’t have anything to say on whether or not ‘Rush Hour’ helmer Brett Ratner would be returning to the director’s seat.

Hopefully Ratner stays far away from this project after seeing what he did to ‘Rush Hour 3.’

Zack Snyder, the guy that brought us ‘300′ and is bringing us ‘Watchmen,’ is moving to a less violent, more tame film. Snyder plans to tackle ‘Guardians of Ga’Hoole’ which will be an animated feature film based on the series of children’s books.

‘Guardians of Ga’Hoole’ is set in the Forest of Tyto, where Barn Owls live in peace until their kingdom is threatened by an evil that could destroy their home. The film was written by John Orloff (’A Mighty Heart’) and John Collee (’Master and Commander’). The same animation company, Animal Logic, that Snyder works with is going to be joining him on this project as well. They have also animated ‘Happy Feet’ and Babe.

Plans are for the film to be ready by 2009 or early 2010. I guess Warner Bros wants to bank off the success Zack Snyder will generate after ‘Watchmen’ hits theaters in 2009.

Guillermo Del Toro is turning into one of Hollywood’s most go-to guys right now. He has been asked to direct ‘Halo,’ which fell through, he’s not officially signed on to direct ‘The Hobbit’ but chances are he will. Now, Del Toro might be looking to direct an adaptation of the video game ‘BioShock’ if the film is presented the right way…

“I love BIOSHOCK from a design point of view,” says del Toro. “But Unless its a HELLBOY sequel I am not that eager to engage in another action-oriented movie. Even if the other elements are right. BUT… if I found the right pitch on the material, who knows – the BIOSHOCK universe is indeed wonderful.”

Del Toro is a wonderful director and so far I have loved every movie he’s directed (that I have seen) and I would love to see more coming from him. He has a very gifted mind when it comes to cinematics and making something on film look stunning. I hope someone is able to make a ‘BioShock’ script that is not a run-and-gun-em type of movie.

The ‘Justice League’ movie has been in trouble ever since production started, or tried to start, anyway. Two weeks ago we got a rumor that Hayden Christensen would be playing Superman in the upcoming film. Now, producer Barrie Osborne, has said a few things regarding the problems with filming the movie has run into.

Director George Miller and his crew were supposed to film in Australia, but since they have yet to get their tax break from Australia, the filmmakers are having to look for new places to start filming. As of right now, New Zealand, Canada and the United States are all possible countries for production to take place in.

he decision had already had an impact on Wellington’s Weta Workshop, which had been designing the costumes for the film. Some Weta staff had been hired specifically for the project. Osborne said it was likely some would lose their jobs.

“If George is unsuccessful in appealing to the [Australian] government, then there’s two choices – you either scale back the movie in some substantial way or you find another place to do the movie that you can do for the budget.”

Miller was a big fan of Jackson and Weta’s achievements, and was inspired to make his animated film Happy Feet after Weta Digital’s accomplishment with computer animation in The Lord of the Rings.
“He was very impressed with the work that Weta Workshop did for us on the Justice League costumes …

“He admires what Peter Jackson’s been able to do and the way he’s organised. He would love to work here and if he did have to leave Australia, New Zealand is close. Where we end up it will depend on what we can make work budget-wise.”

I saw a bunch of footage from this doc at Toronto last September, and it’s shocking, laugh out loud funny, and appalling. One thing is for sure, it will get people talking.
