It’s been almost 13 years since singer/songwriter/guitarist Bradley Nowell, frontman of the band Sublime, died of a heroin overdose inside his hotel room. Since then, multiple albums have been released with previous recordings and new master tracks of previously-released content.

Well, on February 28th, Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson teamed up with Rome Ramirez, a 20-year-old from California to play a gig as Sublime. You can watch some footage of the show below.

Some fans are outraged by this reunion because they feel like Bradley has been replaced by Rome. Here is one person’s comment on ThePier.org Message Board

It’s not gonna stop me from loving the old stuff, but it cheapens the brand and embarrasses me as a fan.

I can’t proudly sport Sublime stickers on my car because I don’t want to associated with Rome, whatsoever.

How about all the people who have branded themselves with Sublime tats? What if Rome tarnishes the Sublime name? What then? All we have is the legacy that Brad left behind. No need for us to add a new chapter written and performed by a kid that none of us know. Hell, Brad never met Rome, what makes him the man to pick up where Brad left off? Why should we blindly support this kid as the frontman to our favorite band?

And another thing…

What the fuck entitles Rome to Bradley’s fortune? All the blood, sweat and tears that Brad spent on this band, and he never really got to see any fortune or fame from it, but this fuckin kid is gonna step in, and pick up where Brad left off, and make the millions that Brad earned. FUCK THAT

How can anyone think this is cool?

Imagine Rome singing Pool Shark… Oh yeah, I’m sure he can relate. Let’s make him a millionaire.

How do YOU feel about Sublime reuniting with this punk kid who has no right stepping into Brad’s shoes?

Ever since the first Guitar Hero game came out, I have wanted to be able to play Sublime. It seemed possible when Guitar Hero 2 was announced, but no Sublime. Then Guitar Hero 3 was announced, and still no Sublime. I gave up hope for a while…

Then Rock Band hit the scene and introduced downloadable content (DLC) as a major part of the game. Still, no Sublime. During the summer of 2008, rumors were flying left and right about what bands we would see in Rock Band 2, and Sublime was always on the top of everyone’s rumor track list. It seemed as though Rock Band fans everywhere would have the chance to see and play Sublime in Rock Band 2, but then the official track list was released by Harmonix and still there was no Sublime. While Rock Band 2 was in development, the guys over at Activision were busy making their version of a full-band game, Guitar Hero: World Tour. And wouldn’t you know, Sublime was finally brought to the homes of video-game fans everywhere with the song “Santeria.”

It’s been months since Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour were released into stores. There are hundreds of downloadable songs for Rock Band, but still no Sublime. What gives? Someone emailed Sublime’s management last year asking about their involvement in Rock Band, and got this message:

So I took it upon myself to send another email to the Sublime management, offering my concern about the lack of Sublime in Rock Band 2, months after the game was released and hundreds of songs have become available for download. This is the message I sent them:

Hey there, long time fan with a quick question.

Last year someone emailed you guys asking about Rock Band, which you guys said for us to wait and see what happens Fall of 2008. Well it’s now getting close to the Spring of 2009 and I am wondering what’s going on?

I know Santeria is in Guitar Hero World Tour, but I can tell you that 1000s of people would love to have Sublime in Rock Band 2. Just check out this thread on the Rock Band Forums.

I hope that one day we will see Sublime in Rock Band, so that way I don’t have to go out and buy crappy Guitar Hero just to get my fix.

Peace guys,

-Ryan Laster

And here is the message I got back, in image format so you know I am not bullshitting you.

Please Harmonix, get your act together. Get back in touch with the Sublime management, make this happen for us Rock Band fans. We want to play Sublime in your game, and we will gladly pay you lots of money to be able to do it. If the boys at Activision can get this done, I definitely know you guys can do it too, and do an even better job if I may say so myself.
